The Australian Government's Better Access to Mental Health Care Initiative allows people with referrals from their GP to obtain Medicare rebates for sessions lasting over 20 minutes when services are provided by a mental health worker.
A Medicare rebate of $54.60 is available for patients with a chronic condition who are referred by their GP and are managed by their GP
1. under a shared care plan or
2. under both a GP Management Plan and Team Care Arrangements
Standard consultation fees for GP referrals are $150 per 60 minute consultations or $75 per 60 minute consultations.
Private Referrals & NDIS Referrals
No Medicare rebates will be available for Private & NDIS referrals. Full standard consultation fees apply which will be discussed with your practitioner. Private Health Insurance holders with policies which cover allied mental health sessions may be entitled to a rebate from their insurers. Please contact your Private Health Insurance for information regarding how much you may be entitled to.
